Twitter is fast approaching the 5-year anniversary of the very first tweet, and in honor of the occasion they have posted some interesting data over at their blog, and Twitter’s numbers are impressive. For companies that are not yet using Twitter as part of their marketing strategy, the numbers will be downright staggering.
Twitter notes that it took just over 3 years for Twitter to reach 1 billion tweets sent. Now Twitter users are sending out a billion tweets every week. Furthermore there is an average of 460,000 new Twitter accounts created each day.

- 456. Tweets per second (TPS) when Michael Jackson died on June 25, 2009 (a record at that time).
